Camera Shots

Long, Medium and Close Up shots

There are three main types of shots that describe how near or far the camera is from the subject.

A long shot shows the whole image/subject

A medium shot shows the image/subject within its surroundings

A close-up shot shows the subject in its entirety and in great detail

An establishing shot at the beginning of a scene tells viewers where they are usually a close-up of a sign or a long shot of a car driving up to somewhere

A over the shoulder shot (OSS) is used to show a sense of drama.
